TIMARU HARBOR BOARD LOAN.

MEETING AT GERALDINE. A somewhat disorderly meeting was held last night at Geraldine, to consider the Harbor Board’s proposal to borrow £IOO,OOO. Mr Amos Sherratt, presided, and the proceedings were lively. Considerable opposition to the proposal had been anticipated in the district; and very strong feeling against it was manifested, though no objection was offered to a proposal to borrow £25,000. The Chairman stated at the outset that no resolutions were to be passed, but many of those present were inclined to disregard this, and Mr Coltman proposed, and Mr Postlethwaite seconded the following—“ That this meeting does not approve of the raising of £IOO,OOO for the purpose of extending the Timaru Breakwater and other works.” The majority was evidently in favor of this.
