[RkDTBR’6 A GENOV. J Arrears of EentslßillLondon, August 7. la the House of Commons yesterday, the Eight Hon, W. E. Gladstone announced with reference to the Arrears of Rents in Ireland Bill, that the Government proposed to reject the amendment made to the Bill in the House of Horde, by which it was required that landlords and tenants should join, in making application to Courts. The Premier, however, further announced that the Government were willing to modify some of the other clauses of the Bill in order to meet the views of the Upper House. Augusts. In the House of Commons to-day the Arrears of Bents in Ireland Bill was again under consideration, and the amendments proposed in the House of Lords were discussed at length. Various new clauses were proposed by the Premier, and all were adopted by a substantial majority. It is believed that the Upper House will consent to accept the Bill in its present form. The Irish Constabulary. The agitation among the Irish Con* stabulary for an increase of pay is now subsiding, and it is hoped that the threatening strike has been averted. Commercial* Consols have declined to 99|. Hew Zealand securities are unchanged. The market rate of discount is 2|, and the bank rate is at 3 per cent. The markets for colonial braadstuifs and tallow are witbont quotable change.
