TIMARU INTELLECTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY.
The weekly meeting of this Society was held last evening in the Foresters’ Hall, the President (Mr Kirby) in the chair. There was a very good attendance of members and their friends. Mr James Scott delivered an excellent address on tbe works of George Elliot, basing his remarks chiefly on " Adam Bede,” which was briefly discussed by several members. This Society is gaining ground ; and, in a quiet way, doing a considerable amount of good in promoting a taste for reading and investigation among young men.
