TIMARU LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.
The adjourned debate on “ Oliver Cromwell ” was concluded last night, some very able speeches being made by various members. The result of the debate was a majority in favor of the Protector. A recitation was then given by Mr J. Qv Bowie, " Shamus O’Brien.’* We were much pleased with this, for it was delivered in a masterly fashion, Mr Bowie has, by careful study, made use of his natural ability to such good purpose that he may be regarded as far and away the best reciter in. Titnaru. The proceedings concluded with a scene from “ Othello," by Messrs Wilson and Kirby, who took the part of Othello and lago respectively.
