An. influential meeting was held at Messrs Gillies, Street and Bislop’s offices, Dunedin, yesterday afternoon to arrange preliminaries in connection with working the city tramways by means of a Limited Liability Company. A Committee was formed to examine the proprietors' proposals, and to report in a fortnight. The case against Messrs Neill and Park, whose recognisance sin the ease of the defaulter McKcllar are threatened to bs estreated, was further adjourned at the Police Court yesterday. The Resident Magistrate expressed bis opinion that in cases where an accused was likely to abscond the bondsmen could themselves legally arrest him. It is stated that a representative of an English syndicate, who is seeking for investments, yesterday bought 500 shares in the Wellington-Manawata Railway Company at par. It is believed the syndicate represents no less than £3,000,000.

The Government intend to hold a further sale of lands on the West Coast during the month of September next. The land to be disposed of on deferred payments, will be open at Hawera and Potea on September 6, while cash land will be sold by auction on September 8. Mr W. Swanson, M.H.8., has presented to the Wellington Museum miscellaneous samples of Auckland manufactured glassware. The samples consist of water bottles, jogs, confectionery jars, stained claret jags, hyacinth, glasses, globes, ordinary tumblers, and pint and half-pint mugs. The articles are exceedingly well finished, and can scarcely bo detected from the imported articles.
