[Ebiuxeb’s Aohncv.] Melbourne, July 18. The Governments Jof Victoria and South Australia have concluded arrangements for the connection of the railway systems of the two colonies at the border. ShippingSailed, this afternoon—Union Company’s steamship Arawata, for the Bluff. The MailsAlbany, July 18. The P. and O. steamship Eavenna, with the inward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, June -16th, arrived in King George’s , Sound this morning. London advices of that date to hand by the mail state that the arrival of the consignment of mutton, ex ship Dunedin, from New Zealand, caused considerable excitement in the Home markets. The quality of the meat was excellent. The prime parts of the carcases were, sold by retail butchers at lOd per lb. When the mail left an angry controversy was proceeding in the metropolitan journals between leading proprietors whose interests are endangered and butchera with regard to the price of meat, and the facility which the rapid developement of the frozen provisions trade affords’ to persons of limited income to obtain colonial meat of good quality at reasonable prices.
