ATHLETICS AT THE EXHIBITION.

[By Teiegeaph.] Christchurch, May G. The athletic sports under the auspices of the Exhibition Sports Com mittee, were held to-day in Lancaster Park. The attendance was moderate. The various events were well contested, the results being as follows Throe Mile Byoicle HandicapMorris, 150 yds, 1; Dunsford, 80yds, 2 ; Langdon, 30yds, 3. Time—l2min 7sec. One Mile Eunning Handicap —Hancock, 100yds, 1 ; O’Connor (champion), scratch, 2; Vaughan, 30yds, 3. Time —4min 30sec. The 100 Yards Handicap was won by Hulston in 10 l-ssec, from scratch. After good jumping Mann took the Hurdle Handicap. The Half-mile race, from scratch, caused great excitement, C. Scrimshaw heating O’Connor in 2miu Csoc. There were only four competitors for the wrestling, which Scott won, throwing O’Brien. There were some other events, concluding with a tug of war, which was disputed in the dark, and will he settled next Saturday, The two mile walking was won by O’Connor from scratch, after a magnificent race. Some of the men had long starts, aud the way ho overhauled them

one after the other, evoked cheers from the spectators, Pierce, the last man overtaken, was only a few yards from the winning post, when O’Connor caught him.
