WAIMATE.
A preliminary meeting of those ■ interested in establishing a Farmers’,, Agricultural Society was held on Thursday last, Mr W. J. Steward, member for Waimate,. presiding, A committee was appointed, and £4O at once subscribed for the purpose of ■ taking steps to start the Society. In the evening over 20 of the promoters dined at the Club Hotel, Mr Steward and Mr Hillary occupying the chair and vice-chair respectively. The evening was devoted to a friendly interchange of opinion on the subject of the proposed Society, and afterwards an hour or two was devoted to harmony and conviviality. We are glad to see the co-operative principle is now generally accepted among farmers, who, as they stood r most in need of some spirit of union, were the last to become impregnated with it.
