N.Z. GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE CLUB.

The Committee met at the Grosvenor Hotel yesterday. Present —Mr T.; Teschemaker (in the chair), Messrs M„ Studholme, H. Ford, P. Jones, and W. S. Lindsay, hon. secretary. ,The' business before the • Committee was the drawing up of a programme for the next meeting, to be held in Christchurch. The order of events resolved upon is as follows First, the Grand National Handicap, the prize to be £300; second, the Maiden, prize £150,; the Hunt Club Cup, prize £l5O ; and the Consolation, prize £6O. Nominations are to be in by April 24 ; ‘ weights to be declared on May Ist; and acceptances to be in by May 15. . The Qlub intend enforcing Rule 74 re admission of amateur riders, which provides that an amateur shall be elected by the Committee and pay £2 to the Club funds. Considerable discussion ensued on the rule by which horses, were expected to “qualify ” by jumping, a hurdle previous to a race, but it ended in the matter being relegated to the Stewards for decision. 1 Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin were granted leave to work their totalisators on the same terms as those adopted by the 0.J.0. for the Autumn meeting.

The Committee instructed their Secretary to thank the CM.C. for the use of their ground and to write to the petitioners who had asked for the meeting to bo held at Ashburton, returning them the amount of their guarantee. The meeting then terminated.
