FLORAL AND HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of this Society was held in the Town Hall last night, Mr J. S. Gibson in the Chair.
The balance-sheet (read and adopted)' showed a credit balance of £5 6s 2d. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patrons : His Honor Judge Ward, : Archdeacdn Harper, Messrs Woollcombe, Luxmoore, H. J. LeCren, and J. Beswick; President, Mr A, Perry; Vice-Presidents: Messrs Belfield, CL T/H. Perry, Wakefield, Archer, Chisholm, Kerr, and Jameson, and Drs* Hammond) Macintyre, ; Hogg, and Lovegrove ; Treasurer, Mr 0. T. H. Perry; Secretary, Mr E. H. Lough ; .Committee of Management: Messrs Langdon, Gibson, John Lewis, Knowles, Harney, Whittaker, Atkinson, Reilly, Morgan, Grey, Sealey, Farrant and James Mair. Mr J. S. Gibson was elected Chairman of Committee. The matter of Messrs Purdie and Go’s offered special prize (not paid over) was dealt with, and the Secretary was instructed to apply to Mr Purdie for the amount. ;
Some discontent was. expressed at having to-pay a-fee of £3 for a license t for the Society’s show building, but ribthing bcia'ld be donO in the matter. After a long discussion as to the distinction ’ between professional and amateur gardiners, the Society resolved to request the new Committee to deal with the matter . and arrange a satisfactory filfinitioh ofithe tercb “ amateurl" “
