WAIMATE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of this Committee was held on Friday last. Present—-Mr Steward (Chairman), Dr Chilton, and Messrs Goldsmith, Sinclair, Hughes, Martin and Gaitt. A memorandum was; received from the Board, stating that the applications for the appointment of fearth teacher, in the room of Miss Nicbll, would be forwarded on the Ist inst. was read. The Chairman said the applications bad not arrived. It was resolved —“That the Secretary write to the Board, requesting to have the applica-, tions forwarded to this Committee in time for the 6th inst, and,thatthe special business be adjourned to that day.” Letters were read as follows:—From the Board, with Inspector's report of late examination of Waimate school; from the same, advising of remittance of Janaary salaries ; from the same, acknowledging Dr Chilton’s nomination to a seat bn the Board; and from the same informing that the Board’s architect has been instructed to prepare plans for the Master's new house at Waimate, From the Chairmen of the Geraldine, Geraldine Flat, and Orari, Bridge School Committees, asking the support of the Waimate Committee in the election of Dr Foster to a seat on the Borad. From Miss Bruce, tendering her; resignation of her post of fourth year pupil teacher. From the Waimate Horticultural Society, offering £5 for school prizes, the Committee to select five books of the value of £1 each and appoint subjects and conditions of competition. From the joint Committees of the Farmers’ Club and Horticultural Socity, asking the use of the scboolhouse for their autumn flower and grain show on April 6., The Inspector’s report was considered an unfavorable one. Mr Ward, Head Master, was present at the discussion on the report. It was resolved—“ That the consideration of the report be deferred until next ordinary meeting on the 14th inst.” Resolved—“ That Miss Bruce’s resignation be accepted with regret, and she be relieved of her duties on the 28th.” Resolved—“ That in reply to a letter from the Chairmen of Geraldine Flat, and Orari Bridge School Comthis Committee will support Dr Foster’s candidature and request the above-named Committees to support the election of Dr Chilton.” Resolved—- “ That the . Horticultural Society be thanked for the donation of £5 for school prizes, and that the Chairman, Mr Gaitt, and Mr Ward, be a Committee to bring up a report recommending the subjects and conditions of- competition for these prizes.” Resolved the; request,of the Joint Farmers and Gardeners Show,Committee be granted,”
