THE WAIMATE NOMINATION.
[By Telegraph.] [from a special correspondent.] Waimate, Dec. 8 Messrs John Manchester, W. J. Steward, J.R. Clement W. Bateman, and C. V. Clarke were proposed to-day for Waimate. The result of the show of hands was ; Manchester 15 Steward ... 14 Clement 12 Bateman 9 Clarke 8 A poll was demanded by Mr Clement. Some warm words passed between Mr Middleton, hotelkeeper, and Mr Bateman. A libel action is spoken of.
