[Ebutee’s Agency.] Squaring Accounts. Sydney, Sept. 28. H.M.S. Wolverine arrived here to-day, and reports having visited Kalo, New Guinea, the scene of the recent massacre of a native missionary. The Chief who was concerned in the massacre, and several other natives were killed, and possession was taken of the village, but only one house, the residence of the Chief, was destroyed. It is believed that the severe punishment indicted on the Kalo natives will have a salutary effect, and prevent a recurrence of outrages in New Guinea. Smallpox. Smallpox in the city is gradually decreasing. Several patients, who have been quarantined at their residences, have now been removed to the enclosure. A man named Southcott died in quarantine to day.
