TPeb Times Special Wibe.l A Blow. New Plymouth, June 25. The flagstaff at Waitara was blown down during the storm yesterday morning, and it will take some days before a new one can be erected. High and Dry. The steamer Rowena still lies on the South Spit, Waitara. The owner will proceed to Auckland to get appliances for launching her. Yet Another! Ashburton, Juno 25 A fire broke out last night at nine o’clock at the shop of Ruxton, tailor, next door to Quill’s Hotel. In half an hour the shop and premises were consumed. The house belonged to Quill, and was valued .at £3OO. It was insured for about half that amount, and the stock and furniture were insured for £430. The cause of the fire is unknown. Exchanged the Pen for the Hammer. Mr Joseph Ivess, the well-known newspaper proprietor, starts in business here as auctioneer on July 1. Another Local Industry. Yesterday, Pearce’s chicory manufactory commenced work.
