FOOTBALL.
TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL F. ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL.
A football match: was played this afternoon between fifteen of the Timaru High School and a similar number of the Ashburton High School. Mr Shepherd umpired for Timaru and Mr Jones for Ashburton. The ground was in bad condition, some parts being under water. The match resulted in an easy victory for the Timaru boys, who obtained five goals and twelve touchdowns to nil. The Timaruites were far heavier than their opponents, and it was the weight of metal which told, but nevertheless the Ashburton boys played well. For Timaru : Jones, J. Cole, Campbell, and E. Tate distinguished themselves, especially the first-named. For Ashburton : Hodder, Curtis, Fenton, Pavitt, and Itting brothers played well. The former is undoubtedly the making of a good player. Mr Stevens officiated as timekeeper.
