[Reuter’s Agency.] Constitutional Reform. Melbourne, May 6. In the Legislative Council last night the Reform Bill received from the Assembly was under discussion in Committee of the whole. Amendments were made in the direction of assimilating the provisions of the measure to those of the Bill which it originated in, and was passed by the Council. Colonial Champagne. The trial of Dr L. L. Smith’s colonial
champagne took place to-day. There was a large representative gathering, and good judge declared the wine to be excellent. It took a second award at the recent Exhibition. The Census. Sydney May 6. The provisional abstract of the census taken on the night of Sunday, April 23, has been issued to-day. The total population of the colony of How South Wales is approximately 850,000, and that of the City and Suburbs 216,000.
