William Carr,a Restaurant proprietor died suddenly yesterday. He was noticed spitting blood aud expired shortly afterwards. He leaves a wife and live children. Another Old Colonist gone. Hugh Stafford of Stoke, brother ol Sir E. W. Stafford, died yesterday. He was well known in turf circles and contested the seat for Nelson suburbs at last general election. Colonel Roberts has wired to Stephenson, contractor, to come at once to Pungarehu to give evidence against the Natives arrested for killing contractors’ sheep. “Struck Oil ” at Lyttelton. Christchurch, Nov. 30. A large whale got into shallow water at Lyttelton heads this morning and was captured by the pilot's crew. Another Victim. Thomas Fuller, a chemist’s assistant who was suffering from drink, escaped from the hospital last night and was found drowned in the Avon this morning.
