The Conference of the Australian Colonies is now sitting, and is making very favorable progress towards giving fuller scope for extending the powers of the proposed Federal Council in dealing with the Chinese question, and mail and defence matters. A proposal has also been made to establish a Federal Court of Appeal. The Conference has adopted resolutions in favor of a Court of Appeal in the colonies, and a treaty of extradition of absconding debtors aud wife deserters.
