A large number of new chums, both male and female, arc due by the ship Opawa, bound from London to Lyttelton. They comprise a few tradesmen and 92 general servants. They are nearly all nominated.
A nearly new silver watch was found planted in the hedge near St. Mary’s Church, the other day by one of the hard labor gang. The finder immediately handed over the property to the warder in charge, and the watch is now in the hands of Detective Kirby, who is on the look out for the owncrThe steamer Zealandia arrived at Auckland at twelve o’clock yesterday bringing the inward San Francisco mail. The Zealandia was three days in advance of the contract time, her present trip from Frisco being the fastest on record. The nominations for the Timaru Athletic Club Handicaps close to-morrow evening at Messrs Collins and and Go’s Auction Rooms, at 8 o’clock.
