TIMARU BOATING CLUB.
The boating season was opened on the Washdyko Lagoon Saturday by tlio usual procession, followed by a series of pair-oared matches. The course was over half a mile between the mud and the sea beach. The weather was delightful, the aroma of the lagoon delicious, and the elubsmen, of whom about twenty mustered, were about the only spectators. The following arc the results : FIRST HEAT. Waipa—L, G. Ilolthousc (bow), G. Shirtcliffe (stroke) ... ... 1 Waiho--A. E. Hawkins (bow), A. L. Jackson (stroke) ... ... 2 Won on the ilag, by about a foot. SECOND HEAT. Waiho —J. E. Galbraith (bow), J. Melton (stroke)... ... ... 1 Waipa—J. Hall (bow), W. Stcricker, (stroke) ... ... ... ... 2 Won by a length and a half. THIRD HEAT. Waiho—E. Lough (bow), 11. Mackay (stroke) 1 Waipa—W. Chapman (bow), S. Cummings (stroke) ... ... ... 2 Won by two lengths. About the middle of the race, Cummings broke his rowlock. FOURTH HEAT. Waipa—J i. G. Ilolthousc (bow), G„ Shirtcliffe (stroke) ... ... 1 Waiho—W. King (bow), E. 11. Campbell (stroke) 2 Won by six inches. FIFTH HEAT. Waiho—E. Lough (bow), R. Mackay (stroke) 1 Waipa—J. E. Galbraith (bow), J. Melton (stroke.) 2 Won by a yard. sixth and final heat. Waiho—E. Lough (bow), R. Mackay (stroke) ... ... ... ... 1 Waipa—L. G. Ilolthousc (bow), G.
