WELLINGTON GOSSIP.
[By Telegraph.] Wellington, Oct. 15. Sir W. Fox and Sir F. D "Bell as I mentioned some weeks ago, hare cordially consented to continue acting on the West Coast Commission. Private engagements hare prevented them taking any active part lately, but they have arranged to meet the Government in Wellington towards the end of this month to confer as to the best plan of carrying out the recommendations con, tained in their third report. It has been reported that Captain Johnstone, of the Marine Department, has received notice of dismissal, but I am informsd, on authority that he has simply received the option of retiring on bis compensation allowance, or of resuming his old position as nautical adviser and examiner of masters and mates, and of course with a reduced salary. —“ Press ” correspondent.
