LATE CABLE NEWS.
[By Telegraph.] The following telegrams have appeared in the Melbourne papers : Active hostilities have been commenced by the Montenegrin troops attacking the Albanian troops on their own territory. A fierce contest ensued, but the Albanians ultimately repulsed their invaders and drove them back into Montenegro with great slaughter. The Drench military fetes just concluded were organised upon a scale of unusual splendour. The most imposing feature was the ceremony of presenting tricolors to the troops, numbering over 25,000, which took place atLongchamps, in the presence of the President of the Legislature, aud an immense concourse of spectators.
Sir Fredrick Leighton, Mr Taddy Thompson, and Colonel Pasley, the committee appointed by the Loudon Commissioners, have succeeded in selecting an admirable collection of pictures for the Melbourne Exhibition. They have obtained in all 180, representing the principal English artists.
