PEDESTRIANISM.

O’Connor’s twelve hours’ walking match against time at the Queen’s Hall, on Saturday, attracted a number of spectators through the day, and at. night, especially towards the close of the performance, there was a much larger attendance. The walking was very good on the whole, and the way in which the champion “ travelled ” when spurting was wonderful. Ho was, however, compelled to abandon the idea of completing the twelve hours’ walk, owing (o au injury to his foot, which rendered his task towards the tinish, au exceedingly irksome one. Al ter keeping gamely to his work he was compelled, at U.IG p.m. to retire, having put in forty-eight miles. The actual lime spent on the track, irrespective of all stoppages, was 9hrs. J2min..being an average of live miles an hour. Barring accidents, our local ped should be able to give a good account of himself at the ensuing pedestrians’ competition at Dunedin.
