Auckland, June 20. The Southern Cross, from Lcvuka, brings news to Juno Filli A Sydney company is erecting a sugar manufacturing plant at a cost of £IOO,OOO. They guarantee to commence iu June, 1882, paying planters 10s per ton for cane. The Governor has commuted the death sentence in the case of Simpson, tried by the High Commissioner’s Court at Potumah, for the murder of Kamnalc, in December iast. He has been sentenced to twenty years imprisonment.
A Few good specimens of auriferous quartz have been discovered in Viti Lcvu. A Government prospecting party lias gone out. The discovery was made by a NcwZcaland miner.
