CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A special meeting of the Ti maria Chamber of Commerce was held this afternoon, for the purpose of receiving the report of the Committee on the Bankruptcy Laws. Present : Messrs F. Archer (Chairman), Suitor, Scaly, Woolleombe, Cain, Kuthcrfurd, Green, Tate, Wildio, and Chisholm.

The report was read, in which I Tic Sub-Committee sfatedfhatthcy thought the views ef the Chairman would bo met by their answering the queries forwarded by the joint committees of the two Houses of the General Assembly rc Bankruptcy Laws, feeling that the root of the evil complained of was to be found in (he law as contained in such queries.

The more important queries replied to were as follows :

(1) The circumstances which should disentitle a bankrupt to his discharge p Answer: The non-payment of 10s im the A ; this sum to be increased if more; than one bankrupt. (’d) Py whom should bankrupts lit* j roseented. and should any fund be. created out of which costs should be paid V—Answer : Trustee or Court shall prosecute —costs to be paid out of estate ; any law expenses incurred by bankrupt up to time, or during tiling not to be paid out of estate. (0) What claims should be Healed as preferential —Answer : None. (1) Should (ho present mode of arrangement by Deed bo continued or should every debtor not obtain bis discharge after open hearing in Court— Answer: No.

(o) Pills of Sade.—No bill of sale, Ac., shall he legal until it has been gazetted and advertised in two local

papers thirty clear days from date of execution.

The report was carefully considered’, and gave rise to a great deal of discussion, which wo are unable to report owing to the lateness of the hour at which the meeting terminated.
