(Per Botomahana, at Bussell.) The Botomahana arrived at Bussed at 7.30 p.m. yesterday. She brings 81 passengers, and 641 tons cargo. She left Sydney on the 2lst instant. NEW SOUTH WALES. Considerable discussion ensued yesterday in the Council on a Bill to appropriate Church and School lands exclusively for educational purposes. Objection was made that many of the Anglican clergy depended on the proportion of revenue derived from these lands for decent stipends. The debate was adjourned. In the Assembly, Mr Brown, on the recommittal of the Electoral Bill introduced a clause rerpxiring candidates to make a money order deposit, but consented to modify his original proposition by the substitution of £4O for £6O, After an acrimonious debate this was carried by 19 to 18. The Assembly has voted £385,379 for temporary supply. All attempts to elicit a statement of the Government's financial policy were successfully resisted by the Treasurer. VICTOBIA. It is said that the police have surrounded the Kellys in an inaccessible position near King Biver, but thathundreds of armed men could not get at them, and the only way is to starve them out. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. The telephone system is to bo introduced into the colony. The receipts from land sales in April were £82,000. The Gazette returns show that 1000 Chinese died in the Northern territory in three months, on whom no inquests were held. [Per Arawata at the Bluff.] The following additional items have been telegraphed : VICTOBIA. The Government continue to find work for the unemployed. Mr Bent has agreed to lot Government works in small sections through the Working Men’s Association, as requested, and has also granted them the use of an office for registry purposes. Some amusement was created last week by Mr Bent publicly chasing an unemployed who rudely demanded work and used threatening language. Mr Bent captured him, and released him with a warning. The Frozen Meat Company has telegraphed to London for one of the best refrigerating machines. They intend commencing operations without delay immediately on rccejpt of the machine. The British Sceptre, from London, was quarantined on the 12th. a case of small pox being aboard. The person attacked being convalescent fifty days, the vessel has since been released. Diphtheria is not yet stamped out, several patients being still under treatment. NEW SOUTH WALES. Mr Beverley, the Deputy-Controller, pleaded guilty to embezzlement, and was sentenced to two and a half years Mail advices received state that the steamer General sailed from Spain on March 13th, with a large number of emigrants for New Ireland. The A.A. Company are taking steps to engage fresh hands to replace those avlio are on strike. Disturbances being feared the manager obtained a strong protective force. The official report of the discovery of gold in the Turkey district states that in one claim two pounds of gold were crushed from a bucketful of quartz. The steamer Keilwario reports picking up a boat containing the master and six sailors of the schooner Noumea, recently wrecked on Saumarez reef.
