THE BREAK WATER.
—— The 'work at the Breakwater has been again temporarily suspended in consequence of the heavy sea running, ■which has rendered block laying simply out of the question. These heavy seas which M'c occasionally experience in Tiraaru, have sometimes seriously delayed the work in connection with the construction of the Breakwater, but it is interesting to learn that the recent gale (some days ago) did more good than harm, as it completely scoured away the sand, a bed of which some three feet in depth, was lying oh:' the end of the breakwater, and considerably interfering with the process of block laying. The sand being thus unexpectedly got rid of, the firm rock underneath has been reached, much to the the satisfaction of the engineer. As soon as Die sea is sufficiently calm the three last blocks placed will be lifted and re-laid, as it was discovered when the sand was swept away that one of the blocks bad been deposited on top of a large boulder lying completely imbedded in the sand, and of course unperceived by the diver. The diver will descend 'at the earliest possible opportunity, and superintend the removal of this boulder which be imagines must be at least a ton in weight. This done the three blocks will be readjusted on the firm rock, and the present obstacles being removed, it is expected that the work will proceed briskly.
