TIMARU HARMONIC SOCIETY.
The Timani Harmonic Society gave one of their pleasant concerts at the Queen’s Hall, last evening, and notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the entertainment succeeded in attracting a large and critical audience. The programme opened with Mendelssohn’s music to Eachim’s “Atbalie,” and great credit is due to the different performers for the way in which they interpreted the meaning',of the Master, in the rendering of the various numbers. The second part of the entertainment served to introduce a number 'of vocal and instrumental selections. The duct, “Wedding March” (piano and harmonium) was fairly executed. The singer of Schubert’s pretty song, “ Der Wanderer,” was honored wit!) an encore, to which, however, lie refused to respond. “ The Equinox” glee was well rendered, “In the Glooming” was very nicely given, and the vocalist had to respond to an imperative encore. The next song “ Beauty Sleep” was perhaps the gem of the evening, and fairly took the house by storm. Responding to an enthusiastic recall, this lady sang, “ Alas those Chimes ” with much sweetness and expression. The violin accompaniment being well executed. Blumenthal’s pretty song “Yes” Werner’s glee “Parting,” and Weber’s glee “Bright Sword of Liberty” brought a very successful evening’s entertainment to a conclusion.
