THE CHRISTCHURCH VOLUNTEER REVIEW.

TOWN EDITION.

Christchurch is in a flutter of excitement, in anticipation of Monday’s Volunteer Review, and the arrival of so many visitors from the South and elsewhere. Manchester street was yesterday evening almost impassable, and at the mounted drill parade in the afternoon in the Park, it is estimated that nearly- 2000 people were present. At 6 a.m. this morning the men mustered for head and post practice, and at 9 o’clock, for Mounted Parade. The Drill shed is rapidly undergoing a complete metamorphosis in anticipation of the forthcoming Ball. The whole of the interior of the shed is being gaily decorated with Hags, banners, scrolls, and other effective and appropriate hangings. The Timaru Artillery- men and the members of the Port Chalmers naval Brigade, are snugly encamped in a paddock close to town. The Dunedin Naval Brigade, the Dunedin Artillery-, and the Headquarters Band arc comfortably fixed up in another paddock at the foot of Manchester street. Everything is well organised, sentries being duly- posted to prevent intrusion. JThe commissariat is described as first-rate. The Dunedin City Guards Band were practising last evening in a large marquee, adjoining Coker’s Hotel, and their performance attracted a large crowd of listeners. The Easter Volunteer arrangements this year promise to be more than ordinarily successful.
