THE DUNEDIN MURDER.

The evidence connecting Butler with the recent Dunedin atrocity is rapidly accumulating, and a most complete chain is likely to be produced at his trial. A telegram, which we received this afternoon, states that a pair of

trousers, identified as having been worn by Butler on the night before the murder was committed, have been found near the Northern Cemetery, and they are said to be stained with blood. The Magisterial investigation of the charge of murder preferred against the accused took place in the Dunedin gaol on Wednesday and was practically- concluded. On the coat there was one spot which had not been examined by Dr Brown, and as His Worship considered it necessary, if possible, to ascertain what it was, the prisoner was remanded till Monday, but it was intimated if necessary he could bo brought up before that time. At the conclusion of the evidence adduced in reference to the charge of murder, the prisoner was charged with having stolen some music books from the choir of St. Joseph’s Church ; and also with having burglariously stolen an opera glass, the property- of Mr Stamper. On these charges also he was remanded till Monday,
