Assualted girlfriend
Lee Carl Akapita, 21, unemployed of Ohakune, pleaded guilty to assaulting a female on 10 May. Court heard how Akapita had gone to his girlfriend's address at 1 1 .45am and during an argument, he had punched her in the head and kneed her in the stomach. She had then run from the house but he followed and caught up with her before throwing her down onto the gravel driveway. The attack stopped when a relative intervened and the girlfriend, who was three months' pregnant, sought medical attention. Akapita was convicted and remanded to appear for a probation officer's report and sentence on 21 August with Judge Ross saying that serious violence was involved. A claim for medical expenses of $134 was sought. Counsel: Paul Brown.
