The court heard that Shem had walked to his girlfriend's house in Ohakune at 4.50pm carrying a knife with an 8cm blade and, when a domestic dispute arose, he had brandished the knife in front of his girlfriend who ran to a neighbouring house from where the police were called. Police arrived to find Shem still brandishing the knife but was persuqded to drop it before being arrested. In convicting and fining Shem $250, court costs $95, Judge Ross said
that this was not the way to resolve a problem and reduce stress, as help was available in the communitv.
