Bull sale success
The partnership of Sonny and Laurie Sands and family from Raetihi held their 7th Angus bull sale at the Raetihi yards last week. Laurie and Pennie Sands and their family, formerly of Owhango near Taumarunui, are stud farming in Romney sheep and Angus bulls on their Horopito property, formerly owned by Mick Berry. The sale was their first in the Waimarino since taking over the property, The two-year-old bulls presented for sale arrived from Owhango as weaners. There were 17 lots and both Laurie and his father Sonny were pleased with the 100 per cent clearance of the sale. Three of the bulls were passed in at the auction but later sold before the end of the day. The top price of $5 100 was paid by P Morrissey from Rotorua who bought lot 2, Grand View Radiata. Prices ranged upwards from $1200. Weights ranged from 653kg to 762kg. The Sands said they will be keen to see how thingscompare next year, when the bulls have had more time to adjust to the climate and terrain.
