Waimarino riding club celebrates 10 years

The tenth birthday of the Waimarino Riding Club was celebrated in style with 27 members and partners enjoying a buffet style meal at the Alpine Restaurant and Bar on Friday 4 October. A birthday cake was made by Jenny Mottram and iced by Adrienne Maru complete with a replica of the club badge. Members were delighted to welcome back to the district, albeit briefly, Karen Hopkins, Fiona Towgood and Karen Worthington — the only past members able to participate in the dinner of the 50 or so invited who had left the districC Club membership numbers have remained fairly consistent in the past 10 years with 12 to 18

members and they hope the next ten years will be as successful. At the meeting on 17 October plans were made for the club's next participation in NITE (North Island Teams Event) to be held on 2 and 3 of January 1997 in Hamilton, and quadrille practices will start shortly. It is hoped to field a team in the Ohakune Pony Club Tetrathlon on 17 November a fun event including cross country running and riding, air rifle shooting, and swimming. The Christmas social is to be held on Sunday 3 December at Rosaleen Morris's residence' Oruakukuru Road at 7pm where a barbecue will be held.
