Potential at dressage
Tauranga was the venue for the Zone 2 Dressage Final, made up of four NZPCA areas: King Country, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Gisborne/ Wairoa. The remaining three zones are each made up of four areas also and the representative riders are all judged by the same judges who travel to the different venues. The King Country team differed from the original selection due to injury with Amanda Garland and Royal Fliway (Raetihi) replacing Sally Williams and Integrity (Raetihi) and Chanelle Davey and Ambition having to withdraw because of injury. The team spent one night at Tauranga and each competed in two tests. In the Championship Class, Claire Hyland (Kakatahi) riding Mr Wise Guy rode a very even and active test to be placed 5th in the junior riders, while Hannah Lord & Cream Cracker (Owhango) and Bridget Plowman & Little Lucifer (Kaitieke) competed with distinction. Kushla Edgarton in her 4th appearance at dressage championships and her first
year as a senior was first to ride, in what was an uncharacteristically hurried test for Kushla & Bolero. However, they scored well. Amanda' s young mare showed her inexperience at times but also plenty of potential. Claire was placed in her remaining class amongst very good competition. It was a very rewarding dressage final, which was won on the day by Bay of Plenty and overall by W aitemata/Rodney .
