School boy rugby
Raetihi school boy rugby kicked off their season in fine style last week, when they played Wanganui Counties in an invitation match held for intermediate and senior grades. The games were played in Raetihi, in fine weather conditions, on Anzac day. There were plenty of parents and supporters to env courage their kids and in both games the children from both teams did not disappoint. The intermediate game was held first, with some good tackling and driving rugby displayed by both teams. There were infringements by both teams in the first 1 5 minutes of the game, but good referee control settled the teams down, the score was even at 12 all at this point. The second-half saw Raetihi take control with fast and determined play by Hoani Brown, Ricki Taura, I TeMaire Hawira and Bruce McFadyen putting points on the board in the try-line and young 'Goonks' TeHuia
adding to the score board with his accurate goal kicking with conversions. The Wanganui boys came back in the second-half but the final score of 41/17 was too much for them. The seniors took to the field following that and this time it was the power and might of the bigger Counties boys, that out-ran and out-played Raetihi
