In sympathy
The following was written for the recent mock funeral for Raetihi' s BNZ agency, 31 December 1995. • For nearly a century you have served Raetihi From mill days, through good times and downs. If they call it progress to take you away Then the men at the top are just clowns. Our Founders invited you in 1905 To set up in business and care For a people just longing to give you a living. They'd be sad at a decision - unfair. We have loved the class of your building Fine windows and ornate decor Your staff through the years have been willing To help all they could and much more. You have taken our money all over the years You've used it but now you don't care To withdraw all your services, and leave us Lonely, desolate, in despair People don't matter to those at the top It's dollars that count, we all know Now a building, left vacant is all that we have We are history, all saddened and low. It's goodbye to the Bank of New Zealand, We will miss you more than you know Only memories left are reminders Of a place we have loved, that must go. Ex staff member - 1952-1963.
