Locals group for masters games in Wanganui formed

From 4-12 February .1995 the New Zealand Masters Games will be held again in Wanganui. This is a large multi-sport event catering for recreational sports people, in an atmosphere of support and fun, where winning is not important. There are 55 different sports, from athletics, biking hockey, 8-ball,

golf, tennis, touch, swimming, bowls, shooting, etc, etc. The sports cater for the 'Masters' age group, where competitors have to be over a certain age before they can enter. The youngest is swimming (20) where most events are 30 or 35. At a meeting in Ohakune on Tuesday 1 1 October, it

was decided amongst some of the people entering, to try and create a local contingent so that they can support one another and give the local area an identity. It was envisaged that entrants from Raetihi, Ohakune and Waiouru, get together to form this team using Mt Ruapehu as the theme. All persons intending to

enter or wishing to know more are urged to attend the meeting at the Ohakune Hotel at 7.30pm on Thursday 20 October. For more

information please contact June Foster (385-8640), Robin Scarrow (385-4287) or Brian Wilson (3858551).
