Fun in the snow for keas

Leaders of Palmerston North' s Roslyn Keas pack had their hands full when they and 14 youngsters took to the slopes of Mt Ruapehu recently. The excursion by the group of 6-8 year olds was one long-awaited, having been postponed on two previous occasions due to bad weather. For the majority of the group it was their first time in snow. The visit was co-ordinated by Ohakune Keas leader Karena Godfrey , who planned

an action-packed day that included a bush walk, picnic lunch at the Carrot and sledding at Turoa Ski Resort. Sleds were provided at a generous subsidy by Sports Country. The Palmerston North group raised $900 for the trip through barbeques, raffles, cake stalls and a walk-a-thon. The Ohakune group have a reciprocal visit planned for September when Palmerston North hosts its annual ' Wheelie Day'.
