Fun Teams Ski Race
This year's Te Heu Heu Trophy which is being raced at Whakapapa on Saturday 3 September looks like being the best ever. The race, which is being sponsored by Lion Ice, has grown in popularity since its commencement in 1 95 8 . The race is a fun teams race but it is fiercely competed for by ski clubs, ski shops, business houses and groups of friends. Thirty teams are expected to take part. Each team consists of 5 members, of which at least two must be females, and the best three times count for the overall result. The Te Heu Heu Trophy commemorates the gifting
of the Tongariro National Park to the people of New Zealand by Te Heu Heu Tukino in September 1887. Entry forms are available from the Whakapapa Ski School at the Top O' the Bruce. National points racing Mt Ruapehu had superb weather and snow conditions again today doe the second Euan Mineral Water Slalom Series, hosted by Whakapapa. The racers enjoyed well groomed race courses that were hard packed and fast. The Hay wood family swept the board again with New Zealand team member, Annika Hay wood (21) winning the Open Womens and
Todd (17) winning the Open Mens. Promising female racers Natasha Wells (16) and Jemma Brooking (14) won their age groups whilst, Tyrolia Team member, Euan Howden (16) and Jamie Ly ver (15) won their age groups. Results: Open Womens; lst Annika Hay wood, 2nd Natasha Wells, 3rd Jemma Brooking; Open Mens lst Todd Haywood, 2nd Euan Howden, 3rd Scott Newman.
