Snowboard park goes ahead, less cars
Turoa is currently working on completing a snowboard park at the top of the High Flyer chairlift. Local boarding identities have been asked to try the new slopes, chutes, jumps and walls and provide feedback for park development. "The park is designed to take snowboarders away from the main ski trails and thoroughfares and give them a place where they can practice jumps and hits. Hopefully this will help avoid accidents and conflicts as well as giving boarders a value addedproduct," says marketing manager for Turoa, Joanna Savage.
Only snow will be used for the construction of the park after criticism of the idea of using car tyres and car bodies for the construction of walls and ramps. The Dominion jumped the gun recently and published a report about car bodies, log slides and picnic tables being part of the new park. Turoa advised that the report was 'premature' and that there was no approval from the Department of Conservation for a park using such articles. Completion of the park can be expected after lift maintenance and main trail grooming has been completed.
