The Grand Chateau hosts a winter art exhibition which openswithaspecialfunctionnextThursday, 1 September, starting at 6.30" pm. Guests will be welcomed by the tangata whenua of the area to begin the evening. Artists include Tony Johnson, originally from South Auckland and known for his murals in the Manakau city chambers; sculptor Natash Keating, living in Wanganui and attending the fine arts school; and Laurent Julien from France. Laurent and his wife are living in Wellington. The night is sponsored by the French Embassy and Morton Estate winery. Morton Estate wines will be avail-

able at the exhibition for the week. The exhibition is in support of the Ruapehu Ski Foundation which was set up in 1976 by Emie Stieglbauer and Des Hayes. The foundation supports young ski racers in their training both nationally and internationally. Many young racers could not continue in the sport without the financial assistance they receive from the foundation. The first coach of the Ruapehu ski foundation was Jan Tischauser who went on to become head coach of the French women' s and Swiss women' s ski teams. For further information Ph Paul Stieglbauer, 385-8946.
