False pretences

Andrea Leigh McPhillips, 22, of Ohakune declined an alternative to prosecution when she appeared on three false pretence charges. These charges arose out of three cheques (for $33 1 , $ 1 50 and $ 1 24) being used by defendant to purchase of goods in Wanganui on 5 November last year, after her cheque book had been reported missing (on 19 October 1993) and subsequently cancelled. As a first offender she had been given the option of avoiding prosecution by paying the money back under the Police Diversion Scheme. However, when she appeared in court last Thursday she declined this option and was remanded to appear for a probation officers report and sentence as well as a reparation report in the Ohakune District Court on 14 July.
