Rangataua rates fluctuate
In 1993 the ratepayers in the Rangataua residential area were charged $99 extra on top of the sewerage rate of $85: a total of $184. This we were told was a one-off situation and I quote the Mayor's reply in the Bulletin, 21 September
1993: "Theoperationaldifficulties that plagued the plant in the past have been rectified as I understand it, and from now on the large fluctuations in maintenance charges should cease." Well, please explain why we are being asked to pay that same amount this year. The combined sewerage rate for 1993-94 would be in the vicinity of $40,000 and we would like a plain, simple explanation where this money is being spent and please don' t try to confuse us with fancy figures and words. Another thing, is every rateable section in Rangataua paying sewerage rates or just some of us subsidising others?
