Rugby
On Saturday 27 May, both Ruapehu College teams travelled to Wanganui where they played St Augustines. For the 1st XV this was their hardest game of the season, both teams being unbeaten in this competition.. In wet wintry conditions, Ruapehu started very strongly and were rewarded when Craig Dolman scored an excellent try. St Augustines recovered and the score for the rest of the first half was even. In the second half, Ruapehu started very slowly and St Augustines scored two tries and a good penalty to take the lead. The
Waimarino boys finally woke up and some good continuous play saw Willie Sutton score. Four minutes from full time George T aura sealed the game with another fine team try in the comer. Despite the conditions a very good game was played but concentration lapses nearly cost the team their unbeaten record. The final score was 1513 to Ruapehu. The 2nd XV are also unbeaten in their grade this year. In their match, although always on top, they failed to finish off opportunities in the first half. The forwards provided a steady stream of possession, but greediness in the back line meant many chances were lost. In the second half the team combined much more cohesively and despite the very wet conditions, they moved the ball well and effectively. Scoring seven tries to two, Ruapehu won the game convincingly, 43-13. Both teams host Wanganui Collegiate at Ruapehu College, 1.15pm, Saturday 4 June.
