Yes to Christie Park playground plan

Anew children' s playground shouldbe built at Christie Park, Ohakune, the Waimarino Community Board decided last Thursday , but they could not agree on how it should be paid for. The board resolved to recommend to the Ruapehu District Council that the plan be approved in principle, but decided to put off a suggested resolution to make a submission to the 1994-95 annual plan for $4000 of subdivision reserves funds to be put towards the project. After some discussion they decided that an old list of projeets approved for reserves funds should be reconsidered along with new projeets. "This comes under a similar principle to the rugby club lights," said Alf Alabaster. "Life goes on - if we wait for Mainstreet these projeets may wait for a long time," said Ben Goddard. "If we delay it now we are going to miss this year's annual planning

process," said Wintsone Oliver. In a report to the board, technical services director Bruce Dobson , outlined the proposal put forward by the Waimarino Health Watch Committee and the Waimarino Plunket Society. "They (are) keen to see a playground developed at Christie Park because it is larger and a more restful site for mothers with young children than Jubilee Park, and that they were prepared to arrange to meet a substantial part of the cost of establishment through donations of time and money." The groups said Christie Park was better than Jubilee Park for the people of Ohakune, while Jubilee park suited the passing public. Shopkeepers in Clyde Street may have an interest in seeing Jubilee Park retained. The elevated area of Christie Park on the Conway Street frontage was seen as the most preferred option.
