Ohakune electricity line gang disbanded
Falling demand for subdivision work and the need to replace an aging line truck are behind changes to King Country Energy' s operations in Ohakune. General manager Peter Till said the present line gang in Ohakune is to be disbanded and the old Bedford truck sold, but the effect on service delivery in the district will be minimal. Mr Till said the purchase of a new line truck for Ohakune could not be justified, given the amount of work available for it. A new line truck with crane costs around $150,000. Ki ng Country Energy and the W anganui-based Po werco , who provide electricity to Raetihi, will provide back-up to each other's fault crews in the Waimarino. Back-up will also be provided from Taumarunui, if required. This means a Po werco truck and crew could respond to a fault call in Ohakune and vice versa in Raetihi. "There are about six fault call-outs a month in Ohakune, and about six times a year when a line truck is required. KCE staff in Ohakune will still be offering inspection and advisory services, Mr Till said. One staff member has been offered a position with KCE in Taumarunui.
