Fire at Ohakune dump

The Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade attended a fire at Ohakune' s dump at around 10pm on Thursday.

One appliance plus the brigade' s tanker and trailer attended the fire that a brigade spokesman said was

out of control. Fire fighters were hampered by moderate winds that s wept the blaze through the dump. It took two hours and approximately 40,000 litres of water to dampen it. Nevertheless flames had flared up again by the following morning but not sufficient to warrant further action by the brigade.
