Jason Reeves, 21, millhand of Raetihi, pleaded guilty to a charge of dri ving while disqualified on State Highway Four (the Parapara Road) on 1 September. Court heard how Reeves had been seen driving north with a companion by police in a patrol car travelling in the same direction. When the patrol car o vertook defendant 's vehicle Reeves had been at the

wheel. However, a short time later when police stopped defendant' s car, Reeves was in the passenger seat. Reeves explained that as the newly purchased car (the reason for his trip to Wanganui) was not running smoothly on uphill gradients he had taken over the wheel on the Aberfeldy hill when he was passed by the police patrol car. He was convicted and sentenced to 1 20 hours community service and disqualified for a period of 12 months following- the expiry of his current disqualification in December. Counsel: Paul Brown.
