Raetihi rugby spirits high

With all three teams having a bye last week it was decided that the Raetihi senior men's team would play a social game against the senior reserve side. The game started off at a horrific pace with both teams really stretched on defence. At half-time, with no one really sure what the score was and three dozen Lion Red refreshments later found both teams having about 30 players each, including about 10
girls from the senior women's side who showed no fear of mixing it with the blokes. It was especially great to see veterans like Darcy Mills, Sam Arahunga and 50-year-old Rex Hall having a run. The game was a great success and indicates just how high the club spirit is at the Raetihi Rugby Football Club. This week will find two teams playing in the finals. The senior women's side are hoping to win back-to-back titles with a finals berth against Wanganui Marist. The game was scheduled for Raetihi on Sunday. However it seems the Wanganui Union have changed the venue, without notifying the club, to Spriggens Park. Unfortunately there appears to be an under 21's final being played at the same place at the same time. Hopefully the Wanganui Rugby Union will confirm what is going on. The Raetihi Senior men have gained a plate final berth against Pirates. This reporter understands this game will be played on Saturday unless the Union have made some more changes.
